Police respond to report of shooting at UMass Boston
Police have surrounded UMass Boston after reports of an active shooter, authorities say.
“Troopers have responded to UMass Boston to an unconfirmed report of a shooting on campus,” the Massachusetts State Police wrote in an X post. “Law enforcement will coordinate with our campus partners to ensure the safety of students, faculty, and staff.”
A Boston Police spokesman confirmed to the Herald that the department had also responded to the call which came in at 3:43 p.m.
BPD Officer Michael Torigian described the scene as “very active.”
The school itself said that there was a “police incident in/near Campus Center” and to avoid the area. Earlier its official X account posted that there was a “Public Safety threat in/near Residence Hall East Building.”
This is a developing story.
