Red Sox lineups: Kutter Crawford set to start Friday’s opener against Angels

Coming off an off-day Thursday and entering the weekend riding a four-game winning streak, the Red Sox will wrap up their 10-game west coast road trip this weekend with three games against Mike Trout and the Los Angeles Angels.

Kutter Crawford (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will make his second start of the season, going up against Angels right-hander Griffin Canning (0-1, 9.00 ERA). Crawford was brilliant in his first outing, allowing one unearned run over six innings while striking out seven in Boston’s eventual 4-3 loss to Seattle on Saturday. Canning didn’t fare nearly as well, allowing five runs over five innings in the Angels’ 13-4 loss to the Baltimore Orioles.

The Red Sox will send out a lefty-heavy lineup to face the right-hander, though Tyler O’Neill will once again start in right field over the left-handed hitting Wilyer Abreu. Masataka Yoshida will bat cleanup as the designated hitter, Triston Casas will bat sixth and Reese McGuire will start behind the plate while batting ninth.

Boston (5-2) enters the weekend second in the AL East and a half-game behind the New York Yankees for the division lead. Los Angeles enters the series tied for first in the AL West (4-2) after sweeping the Miami Marlins. The Angels have also won four in a row and Friday will mark the club’s home opener.
