Orange Line service to resume between North Station and Back Bay, shuttles will continue to Forest Hills
Part of the Orange Line will resume service on Tuesday, while track work and the line closure between Back Bay and Forest Hills will continue through Oct. 20.
“Oct. 15 service resumes between North Station and Back Bay,” the MBTA posted on X, formerly Twitter, on Monday morning. “Shuttle Buses will operate between Back Bay and Forest Hills.”
The Orange Line closed between Back Bay and Forest Hills in early October to address speed restrictions as part of the T’s Track Improvement Plan, aiming to bring all tracks to a “five-year state of good repair” by the end of 2024.
The Orange Line closure extended to North Station between Oct. 12 through 14.
During the closure, the MBTA said they will also address “lighting repairs, painting, and deep cleaning,” along with other work.
Along with free shuttles, riders are encouraged to use fare-free Commuter Rail services during the shutdown. The line runs between Forest Hills, Ruggles, Back Bay and South Station and will be modified with an additional Franklin Park/Foxboro line weekday train service from Forest Hills during the closure. The modified Commuter Rail schedule can be found on the MBTA site.
