Gophers cornerback Justin Walley to return for 2024
One of the Gophers best defensive players said Monday he will return for the 2024 season, while a backup offensive player has decided to leave Minnesota.
Cornerback Justin Walley, who had 41 tackles and an interception in 12 games, said on social media he will be back for his final season of eligibility. Walley’s return is big considering fellow starting corner Tre’Von Jones in his final year.
Offensive lineman Tyrell Lawrence is expected to enter the NCAA transfer portal, a source confirmed to the Pioneer Press. 247sports first reported it.
Lawrence, of Milton, Ontario, did not play across four seasons at Minnesota. He was two-time academic all-Big Ten.
Lawrence’s exit will open up a scholarship.
