Battery Begone: Rimac Redefines Electric with Diesel Magic

Rimac‘s next hypercar might just rewrite the rulebook. Forget charging cables and lithium fatigue – this stunner could be fuelled by… diesel.

Yes, you read that right. While they’re currently churning out the bonkers-fast Nevera EV (1,877bhp, anyone?), Rimac founder Mate Rimac has dropped a tantalising hint about their next project: a “radical new technology” that turns liquid fuels like diesel into electricity on the fly.

No, it’s not a steampunk fantasy. Picture this: microscopic nanotubes inside the engine superheat different types of liquids (diesel, petrol, even hydrogen) to generate electricity. This juice then powers an electric motor, ditching the bulky battery pack for a leaner, meaner driving machine.

“Rimac isn’t just about batteries,” Founder and boss Mate Rimac declared. “We’re all about pushing boundaries and doing what’s most exciting.” And this project certainly qualifies. Imagine a world where your screaming supercar runs on the same stuff you put in your banger, minus the noxious fumes and ear-splitting roar.

And don’t think they’re just messing around. Rimac has partnered with a secretive start-up to test this tech on a smaller scale, and the results look promising. Those nanotubes are humming at a cool 80% efficiency, compared to a measly 30% for your average petrol burner. Even better, the emissions are significantly lower than a traditional engine, making it a potential win-win for performance and the planet.

Rimac believes this could be a game-changer for the entire car industry, but especially for sports cars. Ditching the battery pack means shedding serious weight and space, opening up a whole new world of design possibilities for lightweight, lightning-fast machines.

So, what do you think? Does this diesel-powered electric dream sound like the future of high-octane thrills, or a pipe dream destined to gather dust in Rimac’s lab? Share your thoughts in the comments below. Let’s fuel the debate and see if we can predict the next chapter in Rimac’s revolutionary story.
