BOYS BASKETBALL

Ever since he first began coaching as an assistant back in the 1960s, Bob Fisher has preached one thing specifically – defense.

So that’s precisely what his group relied on Friday. James Molloy paced things with an 18-point outburst, while Jake Brilliant tacked on 16 points himself as Fisher inched ever closer to eclipsing 700 career wins (688 overall) by virtue of a 71-43 victory for Marshfield over Patriot League rival Silver Lake.

In other Patriot League action, Zach Falls (21 points, strong defense), Trevor Jones (14 points) and Liam Burns (13 points) sparked Duxbury (4-1) in a 60-46 win over Plymouth North. … Evan Yakavonis knocked down 16 points, and Ryan Baker and Isaiah Bean-Brittian had 12 points apiece to power Whitman-Hanson (4-2) to a 60-54 win over Hingham.

Ajay Lopes scored his 1,000th career point on the first basket of the game, setting the tone for Wareham to topple nonleague foe Monomoy, 89-42.

Will Bostrom and Ryan Luccarelli each poured in 15 points as Norwell defeated East Bridgewater 66-43 in South Shore League action. … Danny Johnson put up 19 points, and Dom White chipped in with 15 points as Rockland won 56-39 over Randolph. … Cole Rodgers (17 points) and Dan Oman (11 points) powered things offensively, as Sandwich (4-3) edged Middleboro, 55-53. … Kingston Maxwell (19 points, eight rebounds), Tyler Staiti (14 points, six rebounds) and Connor Pease (14 points, 14 rebounds) all turned in solid performances for Abington during a 66-29 romp of Mashpee.

Brian Cloonan scored 25 points as Needham (5-1) defeated Braintree 59-38 in the Bay State Conference.

Behind Finn Bjork’s 23-point, 11-rebound double-double, Somerset Berkley (5-0) cruised to a 77-44 South Coast Conference win over Fairhaven. … Nate Reynolds (25 points), Leo Andrade (23 points), Mike Dankert (16 points) and Emery Robbins (10 points off the bench) reached double figures in the scorebook as Bourne (7-0) coasted to a 92-67 victory over Dighton-Rehoboth. … Landon Cayton had the hot hand with 30 points and five rebounds, and Cayden Gonsalves scattered 18 points as Case (6-2) edged Greater New Bedford, 56-53.

Sean O’Leary scored 20 points, and Henry DiGiorgio and Caden Sullivan chipped in with 16 points each to steer Franklin toward a 75-58 Hockomock League win over Taunton. … Anthony Alessi and Jarred Daughtry each scored 13 points as Stoughton beat Canton, 50-44.

Xavier Rivera supplied energy at both ends with 30 points, 14 rebounds and four blocks, while Tzar Powell Aparicio finished with 20 points and seven assists as Lowell downed Chelmsford 71-53 in the Merrimack Valley Conference. … Zach Wolinski drilled 26 points, and Zach DesRochers finished with 21 points as North Andover (5-1) secured a 66-62 win over Methuen.

In the Catholic Conference, Aiden Pires drained 19 points to lead Catholic Memorial during a 78-54 win over St. John’s (Shrewsbury).

Raphel Laurent (22 points), Anthony Forte (16 points) and Cam Connolly (nine points, 10 rebounds, three assists) stepped up for Peabody (7-1) in a 60-49 Northeastern Conference victory against Salem.

Mason Melchionda (18 points), Theo Allan (15 points) and Jono Windle (13 points) helped Dover-Sherborn roar back for a 53-51 Tri-Valley League win over Norton. … Luke Lisciandra (22 points), Rowan Tracey (15 points) and Pete Kumar (13 points) led the way for Medfield in a 70-62 win over Norwood.

Robby Fiore put in 18 points, and Andrew Alekseye scored 17 points as Rivers (8-1) defeated BB&N 70-42 in the Independent School League.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Ally Johnson scored 12 points, and Bella Sulfaro had nine points and 12 rebounds as Blue Hills (4-1) bested South Shore Voke 47-15 in the Mayflower Athletic Conference.

Sophomores Amelia Crowe (12 points) and Allie Gagnon (11 points) set the tone for Pentucket (6-1) in a 42-25 Cape Ann League win over Triton. … Sadie Gamber netted 10 points (two three-pointers), and the Hamilton-Wenham (6-2) defense held Amesbury to 12 second half points, pulling away for a 49-22 win. … Maggie Schulz (12 points, 12 rebounds), Bella Cannalonga (10 points, six assists), and Caitlin Reilly (10 points, five steals) guided North Reading (4-3) in a 44-40 win over Newburyport.

Celia Neilson was one steal shy of a double-double with 18 points, pairing with Cecilia Kay’s 23 points and five steals to lead Bishop Fenwick (6-1) over Cardinal Spellman, 74-16, in Catholic Central League action. … Sophomores led the way for Arlington Catholic (5-2) to defeat Bishop Stang, 50-17, as Nora Simpson scored 15 points and Maddie Giesta (10 points, 10 rebounds) had a double-double. … Maddy Steel (18 points), Julia Webster (15 points) and Charlotte Adams-Lopez (13 points) notched double digits in scoring as Bishop Feehan beat Archbishop Williams, 85-37.

Senior guard Reese Bartlett dropped 19 points to go with seven assists and five rebounds, pacing Bridgewater-Raynham (5-1) to a 68-62 win over Southeast Conference rival New Bedford.

Brooke Boyle finished with 21 points to lead the team, as Concord-Carlisle (3-2) defeated Boston Latin in the Dual County League, 71-31.

Five different players scored for Rivers (7-3-1) in a 5-3 Independent School League win over Governor’s Academy.

GIRLS HOCKEY

Ela Rabidoux posted a hat trick alongside linemates Lily Hayes (two goals, two assists) and Ivorie Arguin (four assists), powering Pope Francis (5-3-1) to a 6-0 nonleague win over Auburn.

GIRLS TRACK

Peyton Teehan won the 55 meter dash and the long jump (17 feet) as Dedham defeated Dover-Sherborn 52-30 in a Tri-Valley League contest.
