Timur Turlov Takes Freedom SuperApp Beyond Kazakhstan as Digital Expansion Accelerates

The application combines banking, investments and everyday services in one digital environment. Having built its customer base in Kazakhstan, the company is now preparing to adapt this approach for markets with different financial systems and consumer habits.

The expansion comes as the holding increases its international presence. In July 2026, Freedom completed the acquisition of a controlling interest in Turkish Bank A.Ş., creating a foundation for introducing its integrated financial services model in Türkiye. The move illustrates how the company intends to connect its existing technology with new banking operations. Freedom Holding Corp. confirmed the completion of the transaction on July 31.

Kazakhstan Becomes a Testing Ground

Freedom SuperApp was launched in 2024 with mobile banking at its core. Its development has since brought financial products together with travel bookings, online shopping, insurance, event tickets and access to government services.

By September 2026, Freedom SuperApp had reached 6 million users, reflecting the platform’s continued expansion beyond mobile banking into investments, travel, shopping and other everyday services, as reported by Kursiv. The wider ecosystem served more than 14 million customers across its business lines, according to the company’s FY2026 results. These figures describe different measures: the SuperApp’s user base represents the platform’s audience, while the ecosystem figure covers customers of the holding’s broader operations.

For Timur Turlov, the commercial logic lies in connecting these businesses rather than relying on a standalone banking product. Customers can access multiple services through one interface, while the underlying companies retain their own products and operating teams. This creates opportunities to introduce existing users to additional offerings without requiring every service to build a separate audience from scratch.

The model also changes how digital products compete for attention. A banking application may be opened for a payment, but customers can return to the same platform to book a trip, purchase event tickets or manage investments. The breadth of services becomes commercially useful when those connections save time and make routine tasks easier.

Turkey Marks the Next Stage

Freedom’s international expansion gained a new dimension with its entry into Türkiye. In March 2026, the holding announced an agreement to acquire 99.32% of Turkish Bank A.Ş. Following regulatory approvals, the transaction was completed in July, and the bank’s shareholders resolved to rename the institution Freedom Bank A.Ş.

The acquisition gives the group an established banking platform in a market with a population of approximately 86 million. Freedom intends to combine banking and brokerage services with digital products, drawing on experience gained in Kazakhstan. The Turkish business will operate under local regulatory supervision, while the holding contributes technology, financial infrastructure and product expertise.

Transferring the model to another country will require more than replicating an existing application. Local regulation, customer expectations and established competitors will shape the services available and how they are delivered. The bank provides an entry point for developing the ecosystem, but adoption will depend on the quality and relevance of the products offered.

Financial Resources Behind the Expansion

Freedom’s digital ambitions are supported by growth across its wider business. For the financial year ended March 31, 2026, the company reported revenue of $2.19 billion and net income of $153.3 million. Revenue increased from $2.00 billion in the previous financial year, while net income rose from $76.2 million.

In July 2026, Freedom Holding Corp. also completed a $300 million ordinary share offering. The company said the proceeds would support international expansion and investment in its ecosystem.

These resources provide room to develop technology, expand distribution and integrate businesses across markets. Yet financial scale alone does not guarantee that a super-app will succeed abroad. The company must demonstrate that customers find its combined services useful and that its technology can support reliable operations across different jurisdictions.

For Timur Turlov, the longer-term test is whether a digital model developed in Kazakhstan can work in other markets without losing its practical appeal. The Turkish expansion will provide an opportunity to assess that proposition as Freedom brings banking and investment services together under a broader digital offering.
