Karen Read

Your columnist Howie Carr has been opining on the Karen Read case for weeks. He has made various and sundry suggestions.

However, one suggestion I’ve not seen is the indictment of Norfolk County District Attorney Michael “Meatball” Morrissey for obstruction of justice. Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Campbell has the power to do it – provided she has the will.

I’m a criminal defense trial lawyer, and I know obstruction of justice when I see it.

Protection

How stupid are we?  They tried to assassinate President Trump two times.  Between the FBI, the CIA, the Secret Service, and local police — how was nobody there? The killer was spotted on a roof. I saw it on TV. Somebody should be held accountable.

I am 76 years old. I never heard of Charlie Kirk until he was murdered. What a man. He would engage people. He wouldn’t talk at them; he would talk to them and listen to what they had to say.  It is a disgrace that in this political climate, he wasn’t protected.

The hate the Democrats spew out is outrageous.  They call people they hate “Hitler” and Nazis.” Their ignorance is overwhelming.  I wish they could be forced to watch several hours of what the Nazis did in the ’30s and ’40s.

Again, their ignorance is overwhelming.  All these late-night “comedians” should watch Johnny Carson to see what a great and entertaining late-night show was and should be.

Wind projects

In his opinion piece supporting the Federal Department of Transportation for cutting subsidies to seaport infrastructure for offshore wind projects (including Massachusetts’ Salem Wind Port), Craig Rucker makes several misstatements (Herald, Sept 26).

While his organization describes itself as advocating “the pursuit of economic policies that reduce pollution and waste, and maximize resources,” his support of coal-fired power plants as an alternative to wind turbines and solar panels would increase pollution. Air pollution from coal-fired power plants has a heavy human cost in lung and heart disease, premature mortality, and health-care premiums. Air pollution remains a concern in Massachusetts, and wind turbines help to address that issue.

In addition, coal-fired power plants are more costly than other available sources of  energy, such as the solar energy he dismisses.

Settlement

Mayor Michelle Wu’s office paid settlement charges of $100,000 to Willie Bennett and $50,000 to Alan Swanson to put the Carol Stuart murder fiasco to rest.  My first reaction was surprise that the amounts were so low.  Then I read that the price of prepping Mayor Wu and sending 11 people to Washington D.C. in order to defend her Sanctuary City policies cost Boston taxpayers $750,000.  When I saw that amount, unfortunately, I wasn’t surprised a bit. A just settlement, I think not.
