Bruins return Fabian Lysell to Providence
Fabian Lysell’s stay in the National Hockey League was just a taste, apparently.
The Bruins on Sunday returned the 21-year-old Swede to Providence after his big league debut on Saturday in the B’s 4-0 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets. He didn’t show up on the score sheet in 11:23 of ice time, but his puck reversal behind the Columbus net on his first shift began the sequence of the B’s first goal by Justin Brazeau, which turned out to be the game-winner.
He did try to force one play through the neutral zone that didn’t work but overall it was decent performance for the 2021 first-round pick (21st overall).
How long Lysell stays in Providence remains to be seen. After a slow start, he’s been coming on as of late. He’s got 5-12-17 totals in 26 games. Matt Poitras, who started the season in Boston, has been pushing for a recall as well. He’s got 8-10-18 in 19 games in Providence, including points in 10 of his last 12 games. Georgii Merkulov, who had a three-game stint in Boston earlier this season, is also pushing for another look. He also has points in 10 of his last 12 games.
