AC/DC to kick off what could be their final tour at U.S. Bank Stadium
Rock and Roll Hall of Famers AC/DC will kick off their first U.S. tour in nine years — and possibly the band’s final tour ever — when they headline U.S. Bank Stadium on April 10.
Tickets will go on sale at noon Friday through Ticketmaster.
The group, which celebrated its 50th anniversary last December, is hitting 13 stadiums across the country during the tour, which is named after “Power Up,” AC/DC’s 17th album. It was released in November 2020, hit No. 1 in 21 countries and was nominated for three Grammys including best rock album.
Guitarist Angus Young, the only continuous member in the band’s 51 year history, co-wrote the songs with his brother Malcolm, who died in 2017. Stevie Young, nephew of the Young brothers, replaced Malcolm for AC/DC’s most recent tour, which hit St. Paul’s Xcel Energy Center in February 2016. Just weeks later, doctors told vocalist Brian Johnson he had a punctured left ear drum and he risked total hearing loss if he finished the tour. Guns N’ Roses leader Axl Rose filled in for Johnson on the final 22 shows.
Johnson was back up front for the 17 European shows AC/DC performed over the summer.
Longtime band members Cliff Williams (bass) and Phil Rudd (drums) played on the new album, but have retired from touring. They’ve been replaced by bassist Chris Chaney (Alanis Morissette, Jane’s Addiction) and drummer Matt Laug (Alanis Morissette, Alice Cooper).
In a four star review of the band’s July concert at London’s Wembley Stadium, the Guardian’ Michael Hann wrote: “In truth, it’s more or less the same show AC/DC have been playing for decades … The emotional power comes from the suspicion that this world tour will surely be the band’s last, and from the palpable joy their thrilling, reductive, primal music has brought over so many years.”
