Men’s hockey: Tommies top Tech for third win of season

The St. Thomas men’s hockey team avenged Friday’s loss to Michigan Tech by defeating the host Huskies 4-1 in a CCHA matchup on Saturday night.

Lucas Wahlin got the Tommies on the board with the game’s first goal at 8:30 of the opening period, followed just over three minutes later by Liam Malmquist’s power-play tally that made the score 2-0 in favor of the visitors.

St. Thomas and Tech traded goals to close out the frame, with the Tommies’ Matthew Gleason beating the period-ending horn with a power-play strike to make the count 3-1.

After a quiet second period, Cole Miller notched one more goal for St. Thomas at 16:31 of the third to bring the score to its eventual final of 4-1.

With the win, the Tommies improve to 3-9 on the season, while Tech dropped to 8-4 in defeat.
