Red Sox place set-up man Chris Martin on injured list with anxiety
The Red Sox placed Chris Martin on the 15-day injured list Wednesday (retroactive to June 2) due to anxiety.
Martin, 38, last pitched for Boston on May 30 against the Detroit Tigers. The right-hander didn’t look like his usually-dominant self, allowing three earned runs on four hits – including a pair of homers – in the eighth inning. Over 21 appearances totaling 21.1 innings this season, he owns a 4.22 ERA, quadruple his previous season’s total: a 1.05 ERA over 55 outings.
To fill Martin’s spot on the active roster, the club recalled fellow right-hander Zack Kelly from Triple-A Worcester.
