Red Sox lineup: O’Neill back in outfield, Short debuts at second

The Red Sox look to complete a series sweep of the Giants at Fenway Park on Thursday afternoon before heading back out on the road for the third time this season.

Tyler O’Neill is back in the outfield, which gives the scorching-hot Wilyer Abreu a day off.

Boston’s lineup has been full of newcomers throughout this three-game series. Garrett Cooper is the designated hitter, an encouraging sign that the infielder truly “dodged a bullet,” as Alex Cora said; Cooper’s Sox debut on Tuesday was cut short when he was hit on the hand by a pitch in the fifth inning.

Zack Short, acquired from the New York Mets on Wednesday, makes his Red Sox debut batting ninth and playing second base. He’s the third player to debut for Boston during this series; Dom Smith, another former Met infielder, debuted on Wednesday.
