Boston man charged with sex trafficking teenagers

A Boston man charged with sex trafficking last month now faces additional sex-related charges and a dangerousness hearing on Monday, Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden said in a release.

John Jamar Cokley, 38, was charged with trafficking a person for sexual servitude, aggravated statutory rape and possession with intent to distribute a class D substance in March, officials said. He was arraigned Thursday on sex trafficking of a person under 18, rape of a child by force, three counts of aggravated statutory rape, posing a child in a state of sexual conduct, two counts of causing a minor to distribute a drug and possession of child pornography, according to officials.

Cokely utilized social media, specifically Instagram, to sexually exploit three teenagers, officials said. Using a username that included the term “hidden” Cokley allegedly contacted and groomed the three teenagers, picking them up near their homes., driving around Boston and sexually assaulting them in his white Honda Accord, officials said.

“Cases involving manipulation and sexual exploitation of children are devastating and all too common in today’s online world,” Hayden said in a statement. “The young people in this case should be commended for their bravery after the discovery of this man’s actions.”

Cokley also requested sexually explicit photos and videos of the three teens, recording himself sexually assaulting them as well, officials said. He allegedly pressured the teenagers into forcible rape of a child and statutory rape.

Two of the teenagers were given money and drugs in exchange for the sexual acts, with Cokley encouraging them to sell marijuana to peers, as he collected and profited from those sales, officials said.

The Boston resident was held on $25,000 bail and ordered to be fitted with a GPS device if released for the charges from last month’s charges, with his next appearance in court being a dangerousness hearing in Dorchester on Monday.
