Crime Briefs: Man fatally stabbed in Fall River, suspect arrested at the scene

A 44-year-old man was fatally stabbed Friday night at a rooming house in Fall River and a suspect was arrested at the scene, authorities said in a statement Saturday morning.

Fall River police and paramedics were called to a rooming house at 234 Tripp St. where they provided aid to Joseph Bump. Bump was “rushed” to Saint Anne’s Hospital, where he was declared dead just before 10:30 p.m. Friday, according to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.

Pedro Fernando Orellano Alvarado, 42, was arrested at the scene and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, according to the DA’s office. He was being held in jail over the weekend and is scheduled for arraignment at Fall River District Court on Monday morning.

Both Bump and Alvarado were residents of the rooming house, according to the DA’s office.

Gunshot victim stumbles into Cape Cod home

A 41-year-old man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds “stumbled” into a Winter Street home in Hyannis Friday afternoon, the Barnstable Police Department said Saturday.

The 41-year-old man, who was not identified, was shot by a 26-year-old resident of Winter Street “directly known to him,” police said in a statement. The gunshot victim was taken to Cape Cod Hospital and later transported to an undisclosed medical facility in Boston.

The victim was in stable condition as of Saturday morning, according to police.

The 26-year-old, who also was not identified, was taken into custody without incident and charged with assault by a dangerous weapon, assault to murder, assault and battery, and “several other firearms-related charges,” according to police.

The 26-year-old was held on $100,000 cash bail and is scheduled to be arraigned on Monday at Barnstable District Court, according to police.

Police looking for two people connected to Roxbury assault

Boston police said they are looking for two individuals in connection to an assault and battery that occurred on Warren Street in Roxbury around 9:45 a.m. Thursday.

Detectives said they are “actively reviewing the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident” and urged anyone with information to contact them at (617) 343-4275. The alleged assault happened at 655 Warren St., Roxbury, according to police.

Vehicle strikes, kills pedestrian in Revere

A 28-year-old woman from East Boston was killed in Revere on March 10 after they were struck by a vehicle, authorities said.

Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden said Sofia Isabel Mejia Zambrano was walking across the street on Squire Road in Revere when she was hit by a car. Zambrano was declared dead at the scene.

The driver remained on the scene and no charges have been filed, Hayden’s office said. State police notified Zambrano’s husband, who lives in Ecuador, of her death, authorities said.

“We wish to extend our deepest sympathies to Ms. Zambrano’s husband and family. To lose a loved one, especially at such a young age, is a terrible tragedy,” Hayden said in a statement.
