Saturday’s high school scores and highlights

ROUNDUP

BOYS HOCKEY

Avery Powers scored three goals as Woburn (10-2) defeated Burlington 3-2 in the Middlesex League. Wyatt Condon and Jake Sloan had the goals for the Red Devils.

Philly Boncore scored twice and Mickey Holgerson added a goal and two assists as Winthrop rolled past Beverly, 5-1, in Northeastern Conference action.

In the South Coast Conference, Luke Gauvin scored three times with an assist as Somerset Berkley claimed the SCC for the second straight season with a 5-1 win over Apponequet.

In the Tri-Valley League, James Hayward and Wyatt Iantosca scored as Hopkinton edged Dedham, 2-1.

Tommy Halloran’s second goal of the game in overtime gave BC High a 4-3 win over St. John’s (Shrewsbury) in the Catholic Conference.

Charlie Winship scored the only goal as Central Catholic edged Westford Academy, 1-0.

GIRLS HOCKEY

Kasey Litwin and Bella Freitas scored twice and Gianna Tringale made 15 saves as St. Mary’s captured the Catholic Central League title with a 6-1 win over Bishop Stang.

Caitlyn Tremblay netted two goals and three assists, while Shea McDonald added two goals and an assist as Burlington topped Woburn, 6-0, in Middlesex League play.

In the MVC/DCL, Ang Caceda finished with a hat trick and an assist as Waltham (11-2) blanked Cambridge 7-0. … Maeve Greeley notched four assists as Boston Latin (12-3-1) cruised to a 7-1 win over Wayland/Weston.

In the Cape Ann League, Keagan Jewell and Lily Pregent each netted hat tricks as Gloucester (11-3-1) defeated Newburyport 7-5.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Josh Anderson led a balanced attack with 17 points, 10 rebounds and six steals as Lynn English (11-2) defeated Lynn Classical 78-52 in the Greater Boston League.

Joe Vella scored 18 points as Masconomet (7-5) defeated Greater Lawrence 54-49 in a nonleague contest. …Obbie Luciano had 29 points and 10 rebounds as Lawrence (11-3) defeated Brockton, 74-56. … Justin Johnson dropped 32 points  as Putnam Science Academy edged Bradford 76-72.

WRESTLING

Shawsheen captured the State Vocational tournament title, scoring an impressive 325 points. Junior Dante Graziano avenged his loss in the finals last year with a championship at 113 pounds, while Dante Guisti (120), Jake Metcalf (175), Ryan Murphy (190) and Sidney Tildsley (144) also emerged victorious.

Ned Buckley (132 pounds), Aidan Chan (157), Jakub Wozny (165), Tucker Burke (175), Eamon Murphy (190) and Julian Fopiano (285) went 3-0 as Hingham swept Quincy (59-15), Milton (54-16) and New Bedford (45-27).

Brent Von Magnus (132), Jack Alves (138) and Luke Driscoll (175) went 4-0 on the day as Bridgewater-Raynham (21-3) went 3-1, defeating Lowell (45-36), Braintree (53-21) and Brookline (48-36), while falling to Chelmsford (58-21).

 

FOOTBALL

According to several sources, Vernon Crawford has resigned as head football coach at Quincy. In a letter circulated throughout the Quincy athletic community, Quincy principal Keith Ford is serving as acting head coach for the time being.
