Women’s basketball: Gophers fall to Wisconsin in Madison
Serah Williams scored 24 points and Tessa Grady added 15 off the bench as Wisconsin held off Minnesota 59-56 in a Big Ten women’s basketball game in Madison, Wis.
The Gophers (14-5, 4-4 Big Ten) took advantage of sloppy Wisconsin play, forcing 18 turnovers by the Badgers (9-9, 2-6) that directly led to 15 Minnesota points.
Wisconsin native Grace Grocholski led the Gophers with 13 points, while Amaya Battle added 12 points, four assists and two steals.
Minnesota fell behind 13-6 at the end of the first quarter, then rallied to take a brief lead. The Badgers pulled back ahead to lead 26-24 at the half.
Wisconsin built a 10-point edge in the third quarter before Minnesota went on a 7-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Battle.
Minnesota took the lead early in the final quarter thanks to a Grocholski three. But the Gophers then went cold, missing six of seven shots down the stretch.
