Ramaswamy out, endorses Trump after failing to show in Iowa
Tech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy suspended his bid for the Republican nomination after a poor fourth place showing in Iowa’s Republican Caucus.
Ramaswamy’s unusual campaign ended late Monday night the way it began – with praise for the current party frontrunner, former President Donald Trump.
“This entire campaign is about speaking the truth. We did not achieve our goal tonight and we need an America-First patriot in the White House. The people spoke loud and clear about who they want,” Ramaswamy wrote on social media.
“Tonight I am suspending my campaign and endorsing Donald J. Trump and will do everything I can to make sure he is the next U.S. President. I am enormously proud of this team, this movement, and our country,” he continued.

The 38-eight-year old Ohioan’s campaign came to a close after he earned under 8% of support from caucus-goers in Iowa, where he has spent months traveling between the state’s 99 counties. Trump, who was widely predicted to walk away from Monday night the clear victor, won a majority of support in the Hawkeye State, pulling in 51% of the vote.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis came in second at just 21%, and former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley earned 19%.
The fast-talking, Harvard-educated Ramaswamy spent the length of his campaign refusing to criticize the 45th President, despite ostensibly seeking to unseat him from atop the Republican field. Ramaswamy has repeatedly described Trump as “best president of the 21st century.”
His attempt to sell himself as a younger, more energetic version of the former president never quite landed with conservative voters, and earlier this week Trump took to his Truth social media account to blast Ramaswamy and warn Republicans away from him.
“Vivek started his campaign as a great supporter, ‘the best President in generations,’ etc. Unfortunately, now all he does is disguise his support in the form of deceitful campaign tricks. Very sly, but a vote for Vivek is a vote for the ‘other side’ — don’t get duped by this. Vote for ‘TRUMP,’ don’t waste your vote! Vivek is not MAGA. The Biden Indictments against his Political Opponent will never be allowed in this Country, they are already beginning to fall! MAGA!!!” the former President wrote.
Ramaswamy seemed to take the comment in stride, telling reporters he took it to be a light-hearted remark from Trump, but nevertheless was out of the running three days later.
“There are two America-first candidates in this race, and earlier tonight I called Donald Trump to congratulate him on his victory and now, going forward, he will have my full endorsement,” Ramaswamy said after the caucus was called for Trump.
Ramaswamy’s endorsement of Trump comes just days after North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum endorsed the 45th president. Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, former Vice President Mike Pence, and U.S. Sen. Tim Scott have also dropped out of the race, though none have made an endorsement.
