Man arrested after ‘harassing’ MBTA passengers with two rats
A man “well known” to Transit Police was arrested on warrants, after allegedly harassing other MBTA passengers with his two pet rats, police said.
The man, who was not named by the department in a social media post, was “placed into custody” and his two rats, Tom and Jerry, were turned over to animal control after a Sunday night incident at Haymarket station, Transit Police said.
His charges stemmed from “numerous warrants,” including for failure to register as a sex offender, disorderly conduct and making threats, police said.
The man was described as being “well known” to Transit Police, but a department spokesman did not immediately respond to an inquiry about whether he was the same man arrested last March for “threatening folks with his rat,” Jerry.
That man was previously described by Transit Police as being well known for scaring people with his rat, including on Dec. 1, 2022, when police responded to a disturbance on a T bus and found him sitting with a rat on his shoulder.
“Other riders felt unsafe and exited,” T police said at the time.
