Internet Leak Pulls the Cover Off Audi’s Next Q7 Ahead of Planned Launch
Audi intended to begin introducing the next Q7 with a small teaser; however, the internet had other plans.
A new series of photos that have been released online appear to depict the third generation Q7 long before it was revealed. Audi recently shared an image of the model, though it has little information to offer other than a passenger-side door handle, the right mirror housing, a portion of the front fender and an S Line badge.
The company has released the teaser and along with it, familiar marketing speak. The coming SUV is a mix of sporty styling, a flexible cabin, high-quality materials, driver-focused technology and a wide selection of driving modes, Audi said. The manufacturer also said that the car’s global premiere will be in the first half of the year.
What appeared online tells a fuller story.
Images attributed to members of the CochesPias community seem to expose the entire vehicle. If those images reflect the production version, the new Q7 arrives wearing Alopias Blue Metallic paint. The front end adopts a split-headlamp arrangement together with a large honeycomb-style grille. Body surfaces look more pronounced than before. The rear section stands taller and straighter, while the wheel arches gain extra visual mass.
Curiously, recent prototype sightings support parts of the leak. Test vehicles photographed by automotive spies reportedly carried camouflage around the Audi badging while leaving the rest of the body largely uncovered. There was little left to hide.
The cabin no longer appears mysterious either.
Audi has already displayed the interior planned for the future Q9, and leaked Q7 images suggest a close connection between the two vehicles. Three displays dominate the dashboard layout. Thick bezels remain visible around the screens. Wood trim stretches across portions of the cabin, adding a traditional touch rather than a flashy one.
The Q7 occupies an important place in Audi history. The model entered the market in 2005 as the brand’s first crossover SUV and aimed at vehicles such as the BMW X5. More than twenty years later, Audi is preparing the third chapter of that story. The second-generation model has already been on sale for over a decade on sale.
Beneath the bodywork, a major change takes place. The outgoing Q7 uses the Volkswagen Group MLB Evo architecture. Its successor switches to the PPC platform already found under the latest Audi A6. Audi says the newer structure supports internal-combustion engines, hybrid systems, and plug-in-hybrid powertrains.
Timing matters. BMW and Mercedes-Benz have spent much of the year presenting updated models and new arrivals across several segments. Audi’s answer appears close. The next Q7 is approaching, and the larger Q9 is waiting behind it. Before either reached a stage, though, leaked images seem to have stolen the first look.
