The VW ID.7 repeats at a record #8 with sales up 30-fold year-on-year. Picture autobild.de

New car sales in Germany edge down -6.4% year-on-year in February to 203,434 units, meaning the year-to-date tally is off -4.6% to 411,074. BEVs go against the market and improve +30.8% to 35,949 units and 17.7% share vs. 12.6% a year ago. This is all the more impressive given Tesla completely implodes -73.3% to just 0.7% share. 2.8% in February 2024. Volkswagen (+1.7%) is in solid shape at 20.2% share, with Mercedes (-6.4%) matching the market and staying at #2. BMW (+6.1%) and Audi (+11.3%) are both up one spot on last month to #3 and #4, both taking advantage of Skoda’s negative result (-5.1%). Ford (+22.1%) posts a rare double-digit gain, its first since August 2023. Below, Opel (-33.9%), Seat (-19%) and Hyundai (-10.7%) all disappoint. Cupra (+75.8%) posts another stunning result, equalling its ranking record at #10 and achieving a share best at 3%. And that’s without the Leon as the Cupra/Seat split is unavailable for that model.

Model-wise, Volkswagen monopolises the Top 4. The Golf (-31.1%) suffers but easily keeps the top spot ahead of the T-Roc (+12.2%), Tiguan (+3.8%) and Passat (-10.7%). The Tiguan still ranks #2 year-to-date. The Skoda Octavia (-7.7%) is down one spot on January to #5, distancing the BMW X1 (+33.1%) in outstanding shape and up to #6. The Opel Corsa (-6.1%) evolves like the market but gains 9 ranks on last month to #7. Exceptional performance again by the VW ID.7 (+3027.4%) treating at a record #8 and #7 year-to-date vs. #69 over the Full Year 2024. In fact, VW’s electric models all perform extremely well this month with the ID.4/ID.5 up 104.3% to #14 and the ID.3 up 130.3% to #23.
