Update: Prior Lake man dies in Tuesday morning crash

A 69-year-old Prior Lake man died this morning as the result of a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of County Road 42 and Highway 13.

Timothy R. Lavelle, the driver of a 1996 Ford Windstar, was killed after being involved in a two-vehicle crash at about 9:30 a.m. with 2006 Honda Element driven by Gregory H. Blakely, 55, of Savage, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Blakely was transported to St. Francis Regional Medical Center where he was treated for minor injuries, according to the crash report. The passenger in Lavelle’s vehicle, Cleopha C. Grassman, 69, of Prior Lake was transported to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

 According to the State Patrol:

Blakely’s vehicle was traveling southbound on Highway 13 when he collided with Lavelle’s vehicle, which was traveling northbound on Highway 13 and making left turn onto westbound County Road 42. The broadside collision between the two vehicles occurred in the middle of the intersection.

After the impact, Lavelle’s vehicle was sent off the road and appeared to have hit an electrical box before coming to a stop against the sign of a local business located on the southwest corner of the intersection.

The road conditions were wet at the time of the crash.

The Savage Fire Department, along with the Savage and Prior Lake police departments and Allina medics responded to the scene.

Look for updates about the crash as more information is made available throughout the day.
