Kristaps Porzingis exits Celtics-76ers Christmas game with ankle injury
Yet another lower-leg injury sent Kristaps Porzingis to the locker room during the Celtics’ Christmas Day matchup with the Philadelphia 76ers.
Boston’s starting center played 13 minutes in the first half of Wednesday’s game at TD Garden, including the final 34 seconds of the second quarter, but did not return to the court or bench after halftime.
The Celtics announced during the third quarter that Porzingis was doubtful to return with left ankle soreness.
It wasn’t immediately clear when Porzingis suffered the injury, but he came up limping after making a cut just over a minute into the game. The 7-footer missed the first 17 games this season following surgery to repair the “rare” leg injury he sustained during the NBA Finals, and he’s now suffered three injuries since his return on Nov. 25.
The first two — a tweak to his left ankle and pain in his right heel — did not cause him to miss time.
Porzingis recorded nine points on 3-of-8 shooting, three assists and two rebounds before his early exit.
