‘Technical issue’ causes massive outage to Facebook, Instagram, other Meta apps
Facebook, Instagram and Threads are among the Meta apps that experienced a massive outage on Wednesday.
The outages were first reported around 1 p.m. EST, according to Downdetector, which received tens of thousands of complaints regarding the status of Facebook and Instagram. WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger were also affected.
Meta said a “technical issue” was the culprit, but did not elaborate.
“We’re aware that a technical issue is impacting some users’ ability to access our apps,” the company wrote on X. “We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible and apologize for any inconvenience.”
Another unspecified “technical issue” also knocked many apps offline or otherwise disrupted user experience in March.
