Smorgie’s New Year’s Eve party features a giant leprechaun dropping into a pot of gold
If you have driven down West Seventh Street in downtown St. Paul, you may have noticed a leprechaun in a giant pot of gold above Smorgie’s restaurant.
The mystery around the whimsical installation has been solved: The restaurant plans to drop the leprechaun 30 feet into its pot at midnight on New Year’s Eve — a very St. Paul version of the New York City tradition.
Smorgie’s will host a New Year’s Eve party centered on the big drop, which starts at 9 p.m. — perfect timing for those attending the Wild game that night to walk over and celebrate.
Green attire is suggested (yes, your Wild jersey works), and cover band Anderson Daniels will set the tone. If you’re there at midnight for the leprechaun drop, you will be eligible to win a year of free beer and Smorgie’s burgers.
Tickets are $25 and include a taco bar and one free drink.
