MNUFC protected and unprotected players for MLS expansion draft
Minnesota United released the list of 12 players protected from the MLS expansion draft for San Diego FC on Wednesday.
The Loons protected: Michael Boxall, Jefferson Diaz, Hassani Dotson, Carlos Harvey, Bongokuhle Hlongwane, Sang Bin Jeong, Robin Lod, Tani Oluwaseyi, Joaquín Pereyra, Joseph Rosales, Dayne St. Clair, Kelvin Yeboah.
Devin Padelford is exempt as a homegrown player.
MNUFC left available: Teemu Pukki, Wil Trapp, Anthony Markanich Jr., DJ Taylor, Alejandro Bran, Alec Smir, Jordan Adebayo-Smith, Ethan Bristow, Morris Duggan, Matus Kmet, Mikael Marques, Loic Mesanvi and Sam Shashoua.
MNUFC did not retain these players after the 2024 season and are also available for selection: Hugo Bacharach, Zarek Valentin, Franco Fragapane, Clint Irwin, Derek Dodson and Moses Nyeman.
San Diego will be able to pick five total players from the eligible pool of players on Wednesday. Only one United player can be selected. If a Loon is taken, MNUFC will receive $50,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM).
