Ski Wednesday: Plan ahead for these themed events
Pre-Covid, events were a big thing in the ski and ride world. From themed races to on-snow parties and more, there was always something to add on to your day.
It all stopped, of course, those difficult seasons. But here’s some good news: While there may not be countless events to choose from every weekend, quality events are back. Here are a few to plan ahead for (and that means putting it on your calendar, making sure you’ve secured lift tickets for that day and signing up for an event spot if required.)
Plan now for some fun events in the first part of the season.
Dec. 12: Holiday Movie Buff Nirvana, Wachusett Mountain Resort, MA: Who doesn’t love a fresh dose of Holiday Movie charm? On Dec. 12 you can super-size that experience by attending a screening of “A Very Vermont Christmas,” taking place right in the base lodge of Wachusett, where the movie was filmed. Doors open at 6 p.m. There will be holiday appetizers, a Seven Saws brew created with the film in mind, and a screening at 7 p.m. Nosh, watch and then frolic in the real-life movie setting outside. Now that’s embracing a holiday film.
Dec. 21: Cocoa and Cookies with Santa and Mrs. Claus, Cranmore, NH: Santa and the Mrs. are coming to Mount Washington Valley, of course (for the shopping? The elves cannot do everything). You can see them arrive via snowcat at the mountaintop Meister Hut. They arrive at 4:30 and mingle until 6:30, serving cocoa, cookies and some surprises. $25, tickets must be purchased in advance. https://cranmore.com
Jan. 6: Indy Demo Day, Sunday River, ME: Those independent ski and board companies are getting hotter. But getting your hands on some to demo can sometimes be a challenge. This day, many – including Never Summer, Winterstick, Amalgam and Boston’s own Parlor Skis, will be on hand for you to sample away. Ages 15 and up and you must register and hold a seaon pass or lift ticket.
Jan. 26: Diversity goes POP, Pat’s Peak, NH: This heralded event is worth planning ahead for and not just for the amazing price. Pat’s Peak celebrates diversity MLK weekend with a Pay One Price deal from 4- 9 p.m. that includes lift ticket, rentals and a tubing ticket. But the reason to go is the celebration. Music, food, giveaways and more all remind the world that at Pat’s – and everywhere – diversity wins on snow.
Jan. 26: 60th Birthday Blowout, Attitash Mountain Resort NH: Sixty years of ski and ride success is worth celebrating, and Attitash will do just that on Jan. 26. Set the date aside now (and if you’re not a passholder, reserve a day ticket now) and stay tuned for more details. This is a mountain that has always known how to have a great time.
