Gophers backup tailback Sieh Bangura enters NCAA transfer portal
Gophers backup running back Sieh Bangura has entered the NCAA transfer portal, the Pioneer Press confirmed Tuesday.
Bangura transferred to Minnesota from Ohio before the 2024 season but failed to break into the top two tailbacks for the U. Darius Taylor and Marcus Major landed the lion’s share of the carries this season.
Bangura, who rushed for nearly 2,000 yards in the Mid-American Conference over the previous three seasons, had only four carries for 12 yards in three total games this fall. The 6-foot, 200-pounder played just seven offensive snaps all year, according to Pro Football Focus.
Minnesota has had four scholarship players state their intentions to enter the portal — defensive linemen Luther McCoy and Hayden Schwartz and defensive back Craig McDonald. None were significant contributors on the field for the U. Two other walk-ons have also said they will leave — long snapper Ryan Algeria and linebacker Jack Hawkinson.
Rivals first reported news of Bangura in the transfer portal.
