Patriots defensive Christian Barmore participated Thursday in his first practice since late July, an indication the team has opened his 21-day window to return from injured reserve. Barmore had been sidelined with blood clots that doctors discovered during the initial days of training camp. The 25-year-old has not practiced in pads all year, and his timeline for a possible return is unclear.
Defensive coordinator DeMarcus Covington declined to go into specifics about a possible timeline Thursday, saying the team would take it day by day. Barmore has been working out at the team facility for weeks.
Three other defenders returned to practice: linebacker Sione Takitaki (hamstring) and cornerbacks Marcellas Dial (concussion) and Isaiah Bolden (personal). All three missed Wednesday’s padded practice. Thursday’s session was not in full pads.
Defensive lineman Deatrich Wise remains out with a foot injury, and appears at risk of missing Sunday’s game versus the Rams. Wide receiver Tyquan Thornton and practice-squad offensive tackle Caleb Jones were also absent. The reason for Thornton’s absence is unknown.
The Patriots will release their next injury report Thursday evening.
