Joe Mazzulla has on-brand reaction to appearance in ‘Jeopardy’ clue

BROOKLYN — Celtics fans already were well aware of Joe Mazzulla’s love of “The Town,” the Ben Affleck bank heist movie set in Charlestown.

“Jeopardy!” viewers now know that nugget of NBA trivia, too.

Mazzulla’s cinematic preferences were the subject of a clue on a recent episode of the long-running quiz show. The prompt:

“Boston Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla has admitted to watching this heist film directed by Ben Affleck several times a week.”

Mazzulla was asked for his reaction to that honor before Wednesday night’s Celtics-Nets game at Barclays Center. His response was unsurprising to anyone familiar with the notoriously intense head coach.

“I couldn’t care less,” Mazzulla said, passing on a golden opportunity to answer in the form of a question.

Mazzulla was more focused on ensuring the Celtics didn’t drop back-to-back games for the first time this season. They lost to the Atlanta Hawks 117-116 on Tuesday to fall to 9-3.

“I mean, there’s nothing more interesting than winning and the process of winning,” Mazzulla said. “It’s just (about) the consistency, the habits, the execution, the disciplines, the tendencies — all those things you’ve got to fight for. We’ve got to reestablish those every year, and you’ve got to fight for them.

“We’ve done it 60-70% of the time thus far this season, but we’ve got to just be better. We’ve just got to be more consistent in the things that we’ve shown we can be great at.”
