Man dies after Lowertown St. Paul stabbing

Police are investigating the stabbing death of a man Friday who was found in a gas station parking lot in the Lowertown neighborhood of St. Paul.

According to a press release, about 5:23 p.m. Friday police were called to the parking lot on a report of a stabbing. When they arrived they found a man lying in the parking lot with apparent stab wounds. Officers performed first aid and called for St. Paul fire medics. The man was taken to Regions Hospital where he died of his injuries.

A suspect who had remained at the scene was taken into custody. The preliminary investigation indicates the man and suspect got into an altercation inside the store before the stabbing.

The stabbing marks the 21st homicide of 2024 in St. Paul. There were 27 homicides as of this time last year.

The St. Paul Police Department counts 20 homicides this year because the department’s records are for cases investigated by the city’s police department. Another homicide in St. Paul this year was investigated by Metro Transit Police.
