Red Sox OF Jarren Duran named finalist for 2024 Hank Aaron Award
Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran has been announced as one of 20 finalists for the 2024 Hank Aaron Award, which honors the most outstanding regular season offensive performer in each league.
Duran is one of 10 contenders for the American League honor. The others include New York’s Aaron Judge and Juan Soto, Baltimore’s Gunnar Henderson and Anthony Santander, Kansas City’s Bobby Witt Jr., Houston’s Yordan Alvarez, Toronto’s Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Cleveland’s Jose Ramirez and Oakland’s Brent Rooker.
The 28-year-old outfielder enjoyed a historic season in which he became the first player in MLB history to record 40 doubles (48), 30 stolen bases (34), 20 home runs (21) and 10 triples (14). He led MLB in doubles and triples while also batting .285 with an .834 OPS, and he recorded a career-high 8.7 wins above replacement while playing 160 out of 162 games.
Duran also earned his first MLB All-Star nod and was named All-Star MVP after hitting a home run to lead the American League to victory.
Past winners of the Hank Aaron Award include Ronald Acuña Jr. and Shohei Ohtani in 2023, Aaron Judge and Paul Goldschmidt in 2022 and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bryce Harper in 2021. Red Sox winners include J.D. Martinez in 2018, David Ortiz in 2005 and 2016, Kevin Youkilis in 2008 and Manny Ramirez in 2004. Ramirez was also one of the inaugural Hank Aaron Award winners in 1999 while playing for Cleveland.
The Hank Aaron Award winners will be determined by fan vote, which begins today and runs through Sunday, Oct. 13. Fans can vote at mlb.com/aaron, and the winners will be announced during the “All-MLB Team Show” on Thursday, Nov. 14.
