Croatia August 2026: Opel Frontera signs first ever win, Geely Starray up to #5

The Opel Frontera is the best-selling vehicle in Croatia in August.

The Croatian new car market is up 6.3% year-on-year in August to 3,874 registrations in what is traditionally the weakest month of the year. The year-to-date volume is up 5.2% to 53,771. Skoda (+7.6%) and Volkswagen (+15.6%) remain the most popular carmakers in the country with 10.6% and 9.6% share respectively, which is way below their YTD levels of 13.5% and 12.4%. Toyota (+39.6%) and Suzuki (+18.6%) are catching up whereas Opel (-29.2%) is in freefall as its year-ago result was particularly high (#1). Chinese BYD (+411.5%) and Geely (+143.4%) impress, the latter scoring a 3.3% share vs. 0.9% year-to-date, smashing its previous best of 2.3% reached in July 2025.

Over in the models charts, the Opel Frontera (+344.2%) scores its first ever win in the country with a splendid 4.9% share. It now ranks #3 year-to-date and is followed this month by the Suzuki Vitara (+18%) and Renault Clio (+242.1%) up 10 spots to #3. Leader year-to-date, the Skoda Octavia (-23.7%) slumps to #4 in August. Sensational arrival inside the Top 20 of the Geely Starray EM-i directly in 5th place with 3.3% share. The VW Golf (+141.4%), T-Cross (+120%), Tiguan (+103.3%) and Toyota Yaris Cross (+95.2%) also shine below, while the Omoda 5 breaks into the Top 20 for the first time at #20.
