Joey Chestnut aiming for new eating record at Giants-Dodgers game

Fans attending Friday’s game between the San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers will have a chance to see history.

Not baseball history, but eating history.

Bay Area native Joey “Jaws” Chestnut is returning home and will attempt to eat 99 Impossible chicken nuggets during the first nine innings at Oracle Park.

Chestnut, who grew up in Vallejo and attended San Jose State, just reclaimed his title at the annual Nathan’s Fourth of July hotdog eating contest in Coney Island, when he ate 70-1/2 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes, falling short of his previous record, 76, which he set in 2021. He’s won 17 times in 20 attempts.

But the champ has caused some controversy with his love for plant-based nuggets.

He was booted from last year’s Coney Island hot dog eating contest for signing a deal to promote Impossible nuggets and handed a one-year suspension.
