Tania Fernandes Anderson sentenced to 1 month in prison
Former City Councilor Tania Fernandes Anderson was sentenced today to one month in prison, $13,000 in restitution and three years of probation.
She was also hit with a $200 special assessment.
The former councilor pleaded guilty in May to corruption charges tied to a kickback scheme federal authorities said she carried out in a City Hall bathroom.
Fernandes Anderson pleaded guilty to charges stemming from an allegation that she gave one of her staff members a $13,000 bonus on the condition that $7,000 be handed back to her. The handoff took place in June 2023 inside a City Hall bathroom, according to authorities.
Federal prosecutors called on Judge Talwani to sentence Ferandnes Anderson to one year and one day in prison, three years of supervised release, and order her to pay $13,000 in restitution and a $200 special assessment.
Authorities said Fernandes Anderson’s tenure as a city councilor was “marked by anything but true faith and allegiance to her constituents and to the City of Boston.”
