Lucas: Democrats winning at getting it wrong

What’s next for Democrats in Congress — hurling smoke bombs at Republicans a la the Serbian parliament?

Nothing else has worked for Democrats since President Donald Trump was elected and the Republicans took control of both the House and the Senate.

Rather than operating as the loyal opposition with policies of their own, the Democrats at every turn have become a hate-filled party of no.

The only things they seem to favor are a bloated government, men playing in women’s sports, and protection for illegal criminal immigrants that Trump wants to throw out of the country.

Whether it is their rude and disrespectful behavior during Trump’s speech to Congress, or Democrats embracing the censured Rep. Al Green in the House, the party has lost all sense of decorum and relevancy.

The Serbian parliament erupted into chaos last week, and the Democrats in the House appear not too far behind in duplicating its behavior.

What began as a debate over education funding and corruption in Serbia last week quickly turned into mayhem when opposition parties insisted that the session was illegal, and that Prime Minister Milos Vucevic should resign over corruption charges.

Members threw smoke bombs, flares, water bottles and eggs at each other. Three members were injured before order was returned to the smoke-filled parliamentary building.

Meanwhile citizen demonstrations against government corruption have risen in Belgrade, the capital, and elsewhere in the country.

Prior to the riot in the parliament and during the anti-corruption demonstrations, Serbian police raided four civil and social organizations suspected of money laundering and abuse of millions in USAID funds.

Over the years USAID has dished out billions of dollars in NGO aid to Balkan countries like Serbia, Kosovo, Albania, Montenegro, Bosnia and others.

Trump has shut USAID down and fired thousands of its employees.

In the U.S. House last week, Democrats trampled all over parliamentary decorum when they gathered around Rep. Al Green to sing “We Shall Overcome” after Green had been censured by the House for his behavior during Trump’s congressional speech.

That was when Green, waving his cane, interrupted Trump’s speech to the point that House Speaker Mike Johnson ordered him removed from the joint session.

Green’s antics were just part of the Democrats’ disruptive and divisive tactics, like walking out of the chamber, holding up signs, or refusing to stand or applaud at appropriate times, all in protest of Trump’s speech.

They’d be throwing eggs too if there were not so expensive. Maybe tomatoes will do.

But if that Democratic behavior was not embarrassing and weird enough, the Democrats subsequently doubled down on crazy.

That happened when the party put out a Tik Tok video called “Choose Your Fighter” that went viral last week, although not quite the way its creators intended.

It was soundly mocked across the board.

The video featured a half dozen or so congresswomen ludicrously assuming fighting positions as though they were battling an opponent, like Trump or someone not on board with their agenda.

The video, posted by media influencer Jessica Woo, featured Democratic Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Jasmine Crocket, Lauren Underwood, Judy Chu, Susie Lee and Katherine Clark.

What should concern Massachusetts residents, or at least the citizens of the Fifth Congressional District, is the cringey video of Clark assuming a bopping boxer stance to dance music. Talk about a lack of judgement.

Not only did she have no message, she had no rhythm either. She bombed.

Clark currently is second in command to House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries. This means she could become Democratic majority leader or even speaker if the Democrats take over the House.

Things are so bad that even progressive comedian Jimmy Kimmel of NBC took note. Mocking the video and the future of the Democratic Party, he said, “Maybe I’ll look into a medically induced coma for the next four years.”

You lose Jimmy Kimmel, who do you have left?
