Track teams compete at true team

The Shakopee track and field teams will not compete at the state true team meet.

The Sabers failed to advance past the section true team last Tuesday at Prior Lake High School.

The Shakopee girls track team finished in fourth with 724 points while the boys team finished in sixth place with 559 points at the Class 3A, Section 2 meet.

In True Team competition, each team is allowed three entries in Class 3A in individual events and one entry in each relay event. Every entry is placed and scored according to their order of finish, with the idea that a team’s second or third entry becomes just as important as their first entry.

There are three classes in True Team Competition, with the classes based on enrollment. Enrollments are reviewed on an annual basis, and alignments are revised each July by the True Team Committee.

Throughout the state, there are eight sections in each class, with the champion in each section advancing to the state meet. The best second place team in the state in each class also advances as a wild card.

The Rosemount girls team and the Prior Lake boys team captured the section championship titles and will compete at the state true team meet.

In both the boys and girls meets, Shakopee had only one event win.

Senior Tess Misgen won the 800 meter run with a dominating time of 2 minutes, 16.51 seconds. She crossed the finish line seven seconds faster than the second place runner.

The 800 was a big event for the Sabers as they placed three runners in the top 10. Finishing after Misgen for the Sabers was Abbie Fuder with a time of 2:26.39 that put her in fifth place and Kenzie Misgen, who finished in 10th place.

Another strong event for the Shakopee girls team was the 3,200 meters, where they put two runners in the top five. Jayda Becker finished second with a time of 11:41.22 while Isabel Meger was fifth with a time of 11:47.6.

Shakopee’s 4×400 relay team of Fuder, Marseya Hutton, Tess Misgen and Maddie Ames ran a 4:02.75 to finish first by five seconds.

The 4×800 meter relay team of Hutton, Kirsten Johnson, Katelyn Buth and Kenzie Misgen finished second with a time of 10:12.57.

Another strong finish in a relay was turned in by the Sabers’ 4×200 relay team of Sarah Hansen, Hunter Weiss, Maddy Weiss and Jasmyn Fowler as they ran a 1:49.27 to finish third.

Jasmine Terry finished third in the high jump, Abby Edgar was fourth in the pole vault, and Maddy Weiss was fourth in the triple jump.

For the Shakopee boys, Joey Spott had the top finish by finishing fourth in the 110 hurdles with a time of 16.06 seconds.
