Garden tip of the month

Making containers work in your garden

Container gardening is more than just setting out pots. Make your yard come alive by following some of these tips.

*Adding height to a garden can be simple by purchasing a tall plant holder or setting a pot on a pedestal of some type. Set it along the edge of the garden or on the side to draw the eye to the taller object for a more interesting aspect in the garden.

*Decorating tabletops with containers is a good way to add interest plus texture to your outdoor table setting. Try some grasses, shorter flowers such as pansies and cactus. Use unique planters or keep all pots the same or the same colors.

* Create a garden focal point with a plant. Place on a high stand and do plantings around it. Use a bird bath and place a plant pot in the center, then plan a small garden with the bird bath being the focal point.

Put a plant in a cart or wagon and set near on in your garden. How about an old bicycle just sitting with a basket full of flowers? Anything you can find that will make the plant the center of attention is the idea.
