Brad Pitt’s divorce from Angelina Jolie clears the path for his next marriage
Brad Pitt is reportedly looking to get married for the third time, this time to his 32-year-old girlfriend Ines de Ramon, so he’s “relieved” that he and Angelina Jolie have finally settled their bitter, eight-year divorce battle, which included allegations of domestic violence and his reported estrangement from several of his six children.
A “Los Angeles insider” close to Pitt told the Daily Mail that the 61-year-old actor believes that Jolie has been “dragging her feet,” so he “will be relieved that he can finally move on and marry again.” The couple signed off on their divorce on Monday, according to multiple reports.
But an attorney for the 49-year-old “Maria” star said that she, too, has been left “exhausted” by the ongoing “process,” which began when she filed for divorce in September 2016 and included the acrimonious, high-stakes legal fight over custody of their six children — four of whom are now adults.

During the custody fight, Jolie accused Pitt of being verbally and physically abusive during a 2016 private plane ride from France. Pitt denied being abusive, and investigations by the FBI and the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services did not lead to criminal charges. But Jolie continued to make the domestic violence claims an issue in their custody fight.
When Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt, “she and the children left all of the properties they had shared with Mr. Pitt, and since that time she has focused on finding peace and healing for their family,” her attorney, James Simon, said in a statement released to the media.
“Since that time she has focused on finding peace and healing for their family,” Simon said. “Frankly, Angelina is exhausted, but she is relieved this one part is over.”

After Jolie filed for divorce, Pitt acknowledged in interviews that he had a drinking problem and said he had taken steps to address that, including by going to 12-step meetings. An attorney for Pitt previously said he would accept responsibility for some past actions but not for things he didn’t do, People reported.
The former couple share three biological children — Shiloh, 18, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 16 — as well as their adopted children Maddox, 23, Pax, 21, and Zahara, 19. But since Jolie filed for divorce, Zahara, Shiloh and Vivienne have all dropped Pitt’s surname from their own names. It also has been reported that Maddox and Pax do not talk to their father. While it is believed Knox and Vivienne still speak with him, they have not been pictured with him in several years.
Given the grief Pitt reportedly feels over the estrangement from his children, it’s probably not surprising that he would be eager to try and build another family. That’s where de Ramon comes in, according to the Daily Mail. Pitt and de Ramon began dating two years ago, he’s introduced her to his close friends, including George Clooney, and they reportedly now live together in the Los Angeles area, according to the Daily Mail.
“Brad is interested in getting married again, and it is all thanks to Ines,” an insider told the Daily Mail. “He is so comfortable with her that it just feels right with her, and he would be more than OK to make it official.
“It would be a nice thing for him as it would be the official moving on from his romantic past,” the source said.

For her part, Jolie has not officially been linked romantically to anyone since her split from Pitt. Her representatives recently denied rumors and reports that she’s been seeing British rapper, author and activist Akala, as she’s been busy promoting her Maria Callas biopic, “Maria,” for which she’s been getting serious Oscar consideration.
Pitt and Jolie met while co-starring in the 2005 movie, “Mr. & Mrs. Smith.” At the time, Pitt was married to Jennifer Aniston, and Jolie was a single mother, having adopted her first child, Maddox, in Cambodia in 2002. In 2005, Pitt divorced Aniston and accompanied Jolie to Ethiopia where she adopted her next child, Zahara.
The following year, Pitt and Jolie’s daughter Shiloh was born. Their family eventually grew as Pitt adopted Maddox and Zahara, and they couple welcomed son Pax and twins Knox and Vivienne. The couple made their relationship official in 2014 when they wed in a small private wedding at their Chateau Miraval estate and winery in the south of France.
But even if their divorce is now finally, not everything between Jolie and Pitt has been legally sorted out: They will still go to court in the coming year to fight over their multimillion-dollar Miraval winery, which they jointly purchased in 2007 and which they built into one of France’s top producers of award-winning rosé wine.
As their divorce battle dragged on, Jolie sold her 50 percent stake in Miraval Wines to a division of the Stoli Group. Pitt sued her in 2022 for breach of contract, claiming she kept him in the dark about selling her share of the business to a Russian oligarch, People reported.
Pitt claimed that she damaged the reputation of the business by doing so. Jolie filed a countersuit in September 2022, during which some of the more sordid and detailed allegations about Pitt’s actions during the September 2016 plane ride became public.
Legal experts told People that the divorce dragged on for so long, mostly because the couple did not see “eye to eye” on matters involving their children, with Jolie fighting against sharing physical custody with Pitt, due to the domestic abuse allegations.
California family law attorney Scott Weston told People that the length of time that it took for Jolie and Pitt to finalize their divorce is “absolutely” not the norm.
John Lambros, a family law attorney licensed in Florida, Michigan and Massachusetts, added to People that the involvement of the Department of Children and Family Services slowed progression of the case. So, too, did the fact that Jolie took the case to the California Court of Appeals after the original judge involved in the case granted Pitt more time with their minor children. Jolie successfully fought to have the judge removed.
