Anthony Edwards fined $100k for continued use of profanity on TV
Anthony Edwards’ swear jar is getting quite full.
The Timberwolves’ guard was fined $100,000 for his use of profanity in an on-court, television interview Friday in Houston. The guard used a number of swear words while breaking down the Timberwolves’ dramatic come-from-behind victory.
This marks the second time Edwards has received such a fine from the NBA. The first came weeks back after a similar transgression. That was for $75,000. Edwards’ is a frequent offender when it comes to profanity-laced public comments, but the league appears to take specific issue with when such language is used on television.
The more the same things continue to occur, the heftier the fine figures to get. After the first fine, Edwards’ abstained from doing media availabilities for more than a week.
Delay
The start time for Sunday’s Timberwolves home game against the Spurs was pushed back an hour to 8:10 p.m. because of a fault in the team’s “City Edition” floor that was identified earlier in the day Sunday. Arena staffers quickly acted, removing the City Edition floor and swapping the team’s standard court back into place.
This is the second time in three seasons that Minnesota has had an issue with its City Edition floor. The debut of their special court was delayed weeks in 2022 after an imperfection was discovered back then, as well.
Trade game
Former Timberwolves guard D’Angelo Russell was dealt from the Los Angeles Lakers to Brooklyn Nets on Sunday in a deal that brought two-way wing Dorian Finney-Smith to Los Angeles. Notable in that deal was the Lakers had to send three second-round picks to Brooklyn to complete the transaction. It’s a twist considering Minnesota’s 2022 trade that sent Russell to the Lakers in a three-team transaction that brought Mike Conley and Nickeil Alexander-Walker to Minnesota.
The Timberwolves received multiple second-round picks in that deal, which continues to look like a home run for Minnesota.
