Gonzalez has been the Patriots’ best defensive player this season, and probably their best player overall. His injury came one quarter after rookie quarterback Drake Maye, their best offensive player, was evaluated for his own head injury. It was deemed that Maye did not suffer a concussion and returned to the game.
Gonzalez, the Patriots’ 2023 first-round pick, has played every game this season after missing most of his rookie campaign with a shoulder injury.
The young cornerback typically shadows the opposing team’s best wide receiver. He hasn’t allowed more than 28 yards in a game since Week 9.
