Boston woman charged with murder for allegedly ‘repeatedly’ stabbing woman at park
A Boston woman has been charged with murder after she allegedly “repeatedly” stabbed a woman at a park during the middle of the day.
Rasheedah Hughes, 40, has been charged with first-degree murder for the stabbing death last month of Celia Simmons, 65.
Boston police officers responded to a call at Ramsay Park on Washington Street for a person stabbed on Nov. 16 at about 12:48 p.m.
Responding police officers found Simmons suffering from numerous stab wounds.
Hughes and Simmons had reportedly gotten into an altercation, during which Hughes allegedly brandished a box cutter and Simmons hit her with a cane.
“Hughes then left the park and returned some time later carrying what witnesses described as a large knife,” the Suffolk DA’s office said in a statement. “She then stabbed Simmons repeatedly.”
Hughes was identified through eyewitnesses, video, and various circumstantial means.
“This appears to be a middle-of-the-day altercation that went to the very worst of extremes,” Suffolk DA Kevin Hayden said in a statement. “As we see time and again, this type of quick, careless decision-making ends lives and ruins others.

“My sympathies go out to the family and friends of Celia Simmons as we begin the process of seeking accountability for the person charged with her death,” the DA added.
Hughes was ordered held without bail, and is set to return to court on Jan. 23 for a probable cause hearing.
