Recent first-round pick to make season debut vs. Bills, defensive starter out
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — Patriots offensive lineman Cole Strange will make his season debut Sunday against the Bills.
Strange missed the first 15 weeks of the season after tearing his patellar tendon late last season. The Patriots have been working him back in at center during practice. Ben Brown has been the team’s top starter at that position since Week 6.
Here’s the Patriots’ list of inactives:
QB Joe Milton (3rd QB)
RB Jamycal Hasty (ankle)
G Tyrese Robinson
C Lecitus Smith
CB Marcus Jones (hip)
SS Jabrill Peppers (hamstring)
Peppers is the top player on that list. He popped up on Friday’s injury report with a hamstring injury and is still in the midst of a legal situation after pleading not guilty to assault and drug charges in October. Marte Mapu will make his return to the gameday roster, where he’ll join Kyle Dugger, Jaylinn Hawkins, Dell Pettus and Brenden Schooler at safety.
Milton can only enter Sunday’s game if Drake Maye and Jacoby Brissett suffer injuries.
Strange, Brown, left tackle Vederian Lowe, left guard Layden Robinson, right guard Mike Onwenu, right tackle Demontrey Jacobs, Lester Cotton and Sidy Sow will dress on the offensive line.
Christian Gonzalez, Jonathan Jones, Alex Austin, Isaiah Bolden and Marcellas Dial will dress at cornerback with Marcus Jones out.
Expect wide receiver Alex Erickson, who was elevated from the practice squad, to take over punt return and kick return duties with Jones and Hasty out.
The Patriots signed Terrell Jennings off the practice squad to join Rhamondre Stevenson and Antonio Gibson on the active list.
Linebacker Monty Rice will also make his season debut after being elevated off the practice squad.
