East Boston man charged with abuse of pet German Shepherd
An East Boston man is accused of abusing a German shepherd, including walking the dog in a headlock and lying on her neck in public spaces.
“During the holiday season, many pets receive even more attention and affection from the families who love and care for them. But there are always the heartbreaking exceptions, and we will hold people accountable for cruel and abusive behavior whenever we can,” Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden, a dog owner himself, said following the Thursday arraignment of Armani Doshi.
East Boston municipal court Judge Debra Delvecchio ordered Doshi, 27, held on $100 bail and also revoked his bail on a pending case in which Doshi is charged with threatening a judge at Chelsea District Court. Doshi is scheduled to return to court on Jan. 16 for a pretrial hearing.
The dog was taken in by the Animal Rescue League following Doshi’s arrest.
Multiple agencies received reports of Doshi abusing the dog on dates throughout September and December.
Those who reached out to the ARL of Boston, the Massachusetts State Police and Boston Animal Control “reported hearing the dog crying throughout the day and reported Doshi walking the dog by holding her in a headlock, causing her to walk on just her hind legs. Others reported seeing Doshi lie on the dog’s neck when she barked in public spaces,” according to the Suffolk DA’s office.
Those reporting animal abuse should call the ARL hotline at (617) 426-9170 x110 or email cruelty@arlboston.org or the MSPCA hotline at (617) 522-6008 or (800) 628-5808.
