Gophers football loses key offensive lineman to NCAA transfer portal

The Gophers football program suffered its first significant exit from the 2024 roster via the NCAA transfer portal on Monday.

Redshirt freshman offensive tackle Phillip Daniels plans to leave the U after rising into the starting lineup midseason.

Daniels, of Cincinnati, was slated to remain a key piece of the 2025 offensive line with left tackle Aireontae Ersery, left guard Tyler Copper and right guard/tackle Quinn Carroll exhausting eligibility at Minnesota. He might have been a candidate to replace Ersery at left tackle.

The U has not yet added an offensive lineman via the portal, but Daniels’ exit should make that a higher priority going into next season.

Minnesota has now had eight players from last year’s roster exit after the season. None more important to next year’s roster as Daniels.
