Literary calendar for week of Dec. 15
MINNESOTA MYSTERY NIGHT: Roger Stelljes, master of bestselling murder mysteries and psychological thrillers, will be in conversation with veteran thriller author Doug Dorow in this month’s mystery night program. Stelljes’ most recent book is “Taken in the Cold,” seventh in his Tori Hunter-Manchester Bay series. The e-books and audio books of his nine-book McRyan series have been downloaded more than 3 million times. Doug Dorow is the author of two FBI series, the first set in Minnesota featuring FBI special agent Jack Miller. The Critical Incident Series is made up of three novellas about the FBI Hostage Rescue Team. 6 p.m. Monday, Lucky’s 13 Pub, 1352 Sibley Memorial Highway, Mendota. There is a $13 cover charge that includes a $5 book discount certificate that can be used the night of the event or at any future Minnesota Mystery Nights. READINGS BY WRITERS: An eclectic program features Margaret Hasse, author of six full-length collections of poems including, most recently, “Belongings”; Laurie Hertzl, former books editor for Minnesota Star Tribune, freelance book reviewer and teacher in the low-residency MFA program in narrative nonfiction at the University of Georgia; Peter Geye, whose forthcoming sixth novel, “A Lesser Light,” is the first in a cycle of five novels exploring the settlement of the Lake Superior region, especially Minnesota; and Heid E. Erdrich, who has just ended her term as Minneapolis poet laureate and is launching her new book, “Verb Animate,” made up of poems, prose and prompts for collaborative acts.
