Inver Grove Heights man dies in weather-related crash on US 52
An Inver Grove Heights driver died Saturday after crashing into another vehicle on icy roads, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
Willard Henry Pohl, 74, was traveling up the entrance ramp from Concord Boulevard to northbound U.S. 52 in Inver Grove Heights when he lost control of his Chevrolet pickup at the top of the ramp and crossed over the northbound lanes, colliding with a Mazda CX-90 that also was traveling northbound on 52. The Mazda came to a stop in the left lane, while the pickup stopped on the left shoulder.
A man, woman and four children, ages 17, 14, 12 and 6, from Spring Valley, Minnesota, were in the Mazda. None of the Mazda passengers sustained injuries, according to the state patrol.
Along with the fatal crash there were 183 property damage crashes, 18 injury crashes, 54 vehicles off the road, five spin outs and four jackknifed semis between midnight and 6 p.m. Saturday, the state patrol posted on X.
