Red Sox announce earlier start times for select games
After studying the idea for years, the Red Sox will implement earlier start times for select games in the upcoming 2025 season.
The Red Sox announced Tuesday that 15 games will start at 6:45 p.m. rather than traditional 7:10 p.m. for night games. The games will all take place on weeknights in April, May and September, allowing fans to get out earlier on what are typically some of the coldest nights of the season.
Specifically, the early games will be during series against the Toronto Blue Jays (April 7-9), Seattle Mariners (April 22-23), Texas Rangers (May 6-7), New York Mets (May 19-22), Cleveland Guardians (Sept. 2-3) and the Athletics (Sept. 16-17).
Red Sox CEO Sam Kennedy has acknowledged in past years that the club has studied switching to earlier start times, following a recent trend across the sport where many clubs have moved to 6:40 p.m. starts. The issue became less urgent after the introduction of the pitch clock, which dramatically reduced game times and largely solved the issue of games ending well after 10 p.m., but earlier start times could still allow for a more fan-friendly experience when weather is a factor.
The team also announced that tickets for the earlier games will be included as part of the club’s Red Sox Holiday Flex Pax offering, which will go on sale Thursday at 10 a.m. Tickets can be purchased online at redsox.com/flexpax.
