Woodbury: Boy, 16, pulled from Markgrafs Lake remains in critical condition
A 16-year-old boy who went through the ice in Markgrafs Lake in Woodbury on Monday afternoon remains in critical condition at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, police said Tuesday.
After the boy went through the ice, a 12-year-old girl tried to save him and also went through the ice, Cmdr. Tom Ehrenberg of the Woodbury Police Department said. She “is doing OK,” Ehrenberg said.
No other details – including whether the two were related – were available on Tuesday morning.
According to Woodbury authorities, a 911 caller reported around 4:30 p.m. Monday that a child had gone through the ice on the lake southeast of Interstate 94 and Woodbury Drive. First responders, including divers, arrived within a few minutes and began rescue operations.
Upon arrival, witnesses told authorities that other people had gone out onto the ice to rescue the first victim and that they had also fallen through the ice.
The girl was pulled from the lake and taken to Regions Hospital; the boy was later found underwater by divers and also taken to Regions.
Police believe no other victims fell through the ice.
