St. Paul man shot and killed in Minneapolis apartment on Thanksgiving

A St. Paul man was fatally shot in a Minneapolis apartment on Thanksgiving, police said.

The Hennepin County medical examiner’s office identified the man Monday as Mohamed Yusuf Mohamed, 21.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said that at approximately 6:05 p.m., officers from the fourth precinct responded to reports of a shooting in the 700 block of Emerson Avenue North. When they arrived they found Mohamed with life-threatening injuries. He was taken to the hospital where he died of a gunshot wound to the head.

Preliminary information indicates the man was inside an apartment when a shot was fired, striking him. The person who fired the shot fled the scene before officers arrived, O’Hara said in a press release.

“On a day that is supposed to be a celebration, another family has been impacted by a senseless act of violence,” O’Hara said. “My thoughts today are with the victim and his family. Our investigators are focused on seeking justice for the victim and are asking anyone who knows what happened or has any information about this incident to contact us immediately.”

The shooting is under investigation.
